First Estate Food Waste Collection

We’re excited to let you know that we will be launching the estate’s first food waste collection service for Hurstway Walk, Testerton Walk and Barandon Walk

This will also be the first estate in the Kensington and Chelsea to receive this service. From Tuesday 4 May 2021 we will deliver a caddy, some compostable liners and a leaflet to each home on the Walkways that explains how to recycle your food waste and where to take the caddy when it needs emptying. Three large food waste bins have been installed on the estate within metal lockable units to help keep vermin out and smells in. The food waste will be collected every week and there has been a maintenance plan put in place to make sure they are kept clean and presentable.
There are 3 easy steps to recycle your food waste:
  • 1. Line your food caddy with the bin liners provided.
  • 2. Fill the caddy with food waste (only put food items listed under ‘yes please’ section of the leaflet).
  •  3. When full, tie a knot and bring it to one of the food waste bins outside. See locations on the map of the food waste leaflet.
Food waste collected is used to generate electricity to power homes, and as a fertiliser to be used in farming. The new food waste recycling scheme is part of Lancaster West Neighbourhood Team's ambitious plan to make the estate carbon neutral by 2030. If you have any queries or would like to give us feedback on the service, please contact us on 0800 389 2005 or lancasterwestoffice@rbkc.gov.uk
