Mental Health and Wellbeing Courses – African Women Care

Mental Health and Wellbeing Courses is a project delivered in partnership between a local organisation, African Women Care, and a mental health trainer, Catherine. This project will deliver a mixture of half-days and full day courses on the estate, on mental health and suicide first aid.    Mental Health First Aid will teach you how to perform first aid to someone in a mental health crisis before professional help arrives. It will generate knowledge into the various types of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and psychosis. This is a two-day course is for anyone over 16 years.      Suicide First Aid will teach the theory and practice of how to deliver a suicide intervention for people in crisis. These skills can be applied in any setting. This is an accredited course through City & Guilds on completion of an assignment. This is a one-day course and is open to anyone over 16 years.  

Who is African Women Care?

African Women Care deliver specialist support to BME women affected by domestic violence including those affected by Harmful Practices including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), stalking and harassment. African Women Care’s services provide safety planning, advocacy, advice, information and practical guidance ensuring that the women are able to make informed choices about their future and safely exit from being exploited.  African Women Care are working with a mental health trainer, Catherine, to deliver this project through the Lancaster West Community Fund.
